New Year, New Goals, New Dreams

New Year, New Goals, New Dreams

-The Fight for Civil Rights and Immigrant Justice Continues

We look forward to continued growth in capacity in the coming year thanks to your ongoing support.  Recently, we hired Immigration Law Attorney Mina Litvak to increase our capacity in representing unaccompanied children and those with their families fleeing their countries.  In addition, our new Immigration Law Coordinating Attorney Amanda Alvarado Ford has increased our capacity.  Recently, Amanda visited the detention centers in Texas gathering declarations of immigrant mothers and their children, as part of the Flores Settlement enforcement of detention center conditions.  Our Housing Law Program has been revived and our new Housing Law Attorney Judith Gallardo is assisting individuals and families to prevent homelessness.

Our Immigration Law Platform is now available on our website.  Our new website is possible thanks to the expertise of Web and Interactive Media Professionals and it clearly lays out the work in Immigration Law, Workers’ Rights, Senior Law and Housing Law.

Incredible funders and partnerships make our work possible.  The City of San Francisco, U.S. Department of Education, State Bar of California, van Löben Sels/RembeRock Foundation, Silicon Valley Foundation, San Francisco Foundation, California Bar Foundation, Morrison & Foerster Foundation , Wilson Sosini Foundation, Atkinson Foundation and Grove Foundation  have made it possible for us to increase the number of families and individuals we assist by 20% in the coming year.  Our resources and capacity are strengthened thanks to our partnerships with the Mission Promise Neighborhood, San Francisco Immigrant Legal Education Network, Collaborative Resources for Immigrant Services on the Peninsula, Mayor’s Office of Housing, Department of Aging and Adult Services, Office of Civic Engagement and Immigrant Affairs, Office of Labor Standard Enforcement, California Low-Wage and Immigrant Worker Advocates, and the Latino Partnership.

The Board of Directors of La Raza Centro Legal has assisted to increase our donor base and ensure infrastructure improvements.  Our Finance Committee has assisted in the improvement and oversight of finance systems.  Our Fundraising Committee continues to assist with innovative fundraising strategies and has led the Board in greater fundraising engagement.  Our Strategic Planning Committee has drafted our three year Strategic Plan and is assisting in its implementation.  Our Bargaining Committee worked with our union to ensure a salary increase to our hard working and dedicated staff.  Our new Executive Committee of two years brought together La Raza’s Board for a second annual day-long Board retreat to discuss goals for increased capacity in the coming year.

After 41 years of providing high quality legal services, our reputation instills trust in those who seek our services.  Our dedicated staff  is comprised of attorneys and legal assistants from the countries of El Salvador, Nicaragua, Honduras, Chile, Argentina and Mexico.  Many are from similar backgrounds as our clients, the low-income and immigrant community.

Thank you once again for making the work of La Raza Centro Legal possible.  Please do not hesitate to contact me or our Development Director Alexander Peña at (415) 553-3419 or at alex@lrcl.org.

Gracias,
