JOB DESCRIPTION
Salary: Starting at $40,000-$50,000 DOE. Excellent medical, dental, other benefits

Responsibilities: La Raza Centro Legal’s Development Director serves as a member of the organization’s Management and Leadership structure. In that role, the Development Director creates the agency’s overall Fund Development Plan and coordinates all activities within that plan in collaboration with the Executive Director and the Associate Director. The responsibilities include:
Ø Foundations: Manage all aspects of the organization’s foundation fundraising strategy including proposal writing, reporting, research, building and maintaining relationships with current and potential foundation funders, etc.
Ø Government Contracts: Work with Executive Director and Associate Director to manage government contracts, including proposal writing, reporting, communications with current government agencies that administer contracts, seeking new funding opportunities through research, lobbying, etc.
Ø Special Events: Oversee planning of our annual anniversary dinner, our largest fundraising event of the year, including solicitation of sponsorships, ticket sales, publicity, logistics etc. Also, coordinate Board, staff and other volunteers to organize other fundraising events
Ø Individual Donors: Oversee individual and major donor fundraising strategies, including direct mail appeals, major donor visits, research and prospecting, etc. This includes joint supervision of our Fund Development Board, a volunteer committee dedicated to raising money to support the organization’s work.
Ø Management: Along with the Executive Director and Associate Director, the Development Director is a member of La Raza Centro Legal’s management team. In this role, s/he plays a role in the organization’s financial management of the organization, management of and relations with the Board of Directors, strategic planning, and some personnel matters.
Ø Marketing and Communications: Play a role in online and print marketing for the agency, including creation of print and digital marketing materials, website maintenance, etc.
Requirements: A strong commitment to immigrant rights and social justice, verbal and written communication skills, at least two years in experience in nonprofit fundraising, including grant-writing, individual donor work, and special event planning.
Preferred Additional Qualifications: Experience working with Latino, immigrant and/or low-income communities, Spanish-language capability, marketing and communications experience, financial management skills, strategic planning, program planning, and general organizational management experience and/or skills, strong computer skills.

| 1. | Centro Legal employs 18 people including 5 attorneys. Centro Legal relies on over 100 volunteers each year to conduct legal clinics, co-counsel on large cases, conduct community education, conduct community outreach, and assist with daily operations. |

| 3. | Centro Legal's 2006-2007 budget is just over $1.2 million. Centro Legal obtains funding support from local city and county governments, private foundations, corporations, individual donors, special fundraising events, attorney's fees, and client donations. |
| 4. | In the past 5 years, Centro Legal has experienced significant growth. Overall fundraising has increased by 61%. Foundation income has increased by 20%, government grants have increased by 46%, individual donors' support has increased by 334%, and program income has increased by 18%. |
| 5. | In the 2001-2002 fiscal year, Centro Legal provided direct legal services, social services, advocacy, community education, and leadership development to over 12,000 individuals in the greater Bay Area. |
| 6. | Just over one-half of Centro Legal's legal services clients come from San Mateo County. The next largest group of clients come from San Francisco. Centro Legal, however, services individuals from all over Northern California. All services are free. Centro Legal encourages donations from clients to support the work of the agency. |
| 7. | Centro Legal works collaboratively with numerous organizations throughout the Bay Area to provide a structured and efficient network of services to the community. |
